Feyenoord lost more ground on the Eredivisie leaders after being beaten 2-1 at home by Heerenveen, which was a fourth straight loss for Giovanni van Bronckhorst's third-placed side.

Heerenveen took the lead at De Kuip just before half-time through Henk Veerman (39).

Although substitute Anass Achahbar (71) levelled for the home side with a brilliant over-head kick from 15 yards, a late goal by midfielder Joey van den Berg (84) secured all three points for the visitors.

Thursday's other Eredivisie match saw Roda pick up their first home win August when substitute Maecky Ngombo (81) secured a 1-0 victory over Utrecht, who had been unbeaten in six matches.
