New Feyenoord coach Ronald Koeman enjoyed a winning start on Friday as his team defeated Rotterdam city rivals Excelsior 2-0 on the opening night of the Dutch league season.

Guyon Fernandez, who joined from Excelsior in the summer, scored the first goal on 56 minutes with a Leen van Steensel own goal securing the three points 15 minutes later.

Former Feyenoord player Koeman has the job of improving the club's disastrous form of last season which saw them struggle to a 10th-place finish.
