Stokes appeal ruled out
28 Nov 2006 - 13:19:02
Falkirk's loan sensation Anthony Stokes will miss next weekend's showdown with Rangers after an appeal against his red card against Motherwell was ruled out.
Stokes was dismissed for two yellow cards against the Steelmen, leaving the Bairns unable to appeal against the suspension for the 13-goal Arsenal ace.
Falkirk boss John Hughes told the Daily Record: "If he'd been given a red card for a foul or violent conduct we could have appealed. but because it was for a second yellow we can't. That doesn't seem fair.
"Anthony is distraught. He swears blind he was caught by the boy in the penalty box and does not want to be labelled a cheat and a diver.
"We'd have used television evidence and photographs we have which clearly show contact was made.
"He was desperate to play against Rangers on Sunday but now he won't be able to and he is very disappointed."
