Scobbie out to take second chance

John Hughes' men could have avoided the drop with a victory over St Mirren last weekend but were swept aside by the Buddies in a 2-0 defeat that leaves them requiring a win in the Highlands in a dramatic make-or-break showdown. Scobbie has struggled to explain last weekend's flat performance when so much was at stake but the 21-year-old believes he and his team-mates will not make the same mistake twice as they try to cope with the stresses of engineering a final-day escape from the clutches of the First Division. He said: "We were disappointed with the game against St Mirren. To win that game would have cemented our place for next season. "But things like this happen in football. That's why we're in the game, to handle these pressure situations, and we need to step up to the plate and go there and get the win. "We've got a good record up there and we'll go with a bit of confidence. We've been working hard in training all week and we'll go up there and try to win. "I'm not really sure why we played the way we did last week. I don't think anybody really expected St Mirren to come flying out the traps the way they did and I don't think anybody expected us to be so lethargic and have such a poor performance. "But the gaffer has said we need to wipe the slate clean, forget about that game, and focus on the game on Saturday. "We've got another bite of the cherry and we need to make sure we take advantage of it." Scobbie has friends who are Falkirk supporters and, after gauging their mood, has urged everyone associated with the club to forget next weekend's Homecoming Scottish Cup final and concentrate fully on the consequences of their 'cup final' against Inverness. With Rangers to come at Hampden, stepping out at the national stadium as a First Division team is a scenario Scobbie does not want to contemplate. However, the Scotland under-21 international insists he is excited and not nervous about the trip north. He added: "I have spoken to a lot of fans and a lot of other people around the club and they are asking me if I'm nervous. "But I'm actually really looking forward to it, I'm excited. I don't know why, I thought I would be nervous but I'm not and I'm really looking forward to the game coming up. I think it's going to be a great game. "Unfortunately for us, we're involved in the relegation issue but this is what football is all about and we just need to go up there and win."
