Scobbie looking to the future

The 21-year-old endured a difficult season playing through groin and pelvic injuries to help Falkirk survive their relegation battle on the final day. Scobbie missed several months before New Year and was severely restricted in the second part of the campaign, so he is viewing Eddie May's new regime as a fresh start. "Last season was very difficult and on a personal level I was just trying to get through the season as quickly as possible because the injuries I had a were a hindrance," said Scobbie, whose team face Dundee United tomorrow. "But I spoke to the manager on the first day I came in this season and he assured me that if it got to a situation where I wasn't able to train every day of the week then he wouldn't play me." The left-back was only training two days a week at the height of his problems, but former boss John Hughes viewed him as an essential part of his team. "It was difficult but, the situation we were in, I wasn't going to let it stop me playing," Scobbie said. "I had two hernia ops, tendinitis and osteitis pubis and these things hold back your progression. "But it was difficult in the situation we were in. There were a few injuries and we had to help John and Brian (Rice) out to survive in the SPL. "Thankfully we have done that and I had a good four or five weeks off in the summer to rest up. I think that has been the main thing for me, getting a bit of rest. "Hopefully that is behind me now and I can push on with the new gaffer." Falkirk have lost their first two SPL games under May with three set-pieces costing them after they took the lead against Hibernian last weekend. But Scobbie is optimistic Falkirk can take something from their visit to Tannadice. "The manager has done a great job in the time he has had," Scobbie said. "I think we showed that against Rangers, albeit we lost 4-1, and we showed up very, very well against Hibernian for 40 minutes and for spells in the second half as well. "We have spoken about it and said goals win games and we've been working on that all week. "Going forward we have got very exciting players, but the goals we have conceded have been very avoidable."
