Pressley: Bairns will stay up
12 Feb 2010 - 09:10:27
New manager Steven Pressley has promised Falkirk fans that he will keep the club in the Scottish Premier League this season.
The 35-year-old was handed the reins at the struggling Bairns - his first managerial job - following Eddie May's decision to step down on Thursday.
May's last game saw the Bairns lose 1-0 at home to Kilmarnock to drop to the foot of the table, having won just three times in 23 league games this term.
But despite the bleak league position, former Scotland, Celtic, Dundee United and Hearts defender Pressley is confident of guiding the ailing club to safety this season,.
"Make no mistake about it, Falkirk will stay in the Premier League," he declared.
"I wouldn't be taking this job if I didn't think I could keep us up."
Pressley, who had been part of May's backroom staff, added: "I have the utmost respect for Eddie as a person and a manager. He made some very difficult decisions in his time here - decisions that I believe will help this club in the future.
"There are several aspects of management and although myself and Eddie agreed on many, we differed greatly on others.
"You can dress management up any way that you want but the single most important factor is winning games of football and I intend to bring that to this club.
"I have a huge belief in this current group of players, my staff, the board and my ability to manage and because of that we will stay in this division, no doubt about it."
