Pressley stepped up from his coaching role following the exit of Eddie May yesterday and listened to chairman Martin Ritchie stressing that relegation would be "disastrous".[LNB]Pressley goes into his first game against Hearts with the club three points adrift but he pledged to keep them in the top flight.[LNB]"I take the job with the belief I will keep them in the SPL," Pressley said.[LNB]"If I don't do that I will have failed. That's football, that's life. You are always judged, you are judged by results.[LNB]"It is a great degree of responsibility but I'm happy living with that.[LNB]"I believe in the players, I really do. I train with them every day, I have watched them closely, I see their character.[LNB]"They are a smashing group of players and I believe they are far greater than their league position suggests.[LNB]"I need to get inside the players' heads, need to make sure they know the demands of playing at this football club and start creating a winning mentality.[LNB]"We managed to do that at Hearts, it took a bit of time, but that's what I want to achieve here."[LNB]Alex Smith remains as assistant with Lee Bullen promoted from youth coach to working with his fellow first-team players.[LNB]And Smith has tipped Pressley to be an instant success.[LNB]"I have had experience of this before with Dundee United," the 67-year-old said.[LNB]"At this stage of the season we were seven points behind St Mirren and finished five points above them. I know what it needs to escape.[LNB]"The fans behaved like they had just won the cup - you can be a hero by keeping a club in the league.[LNB]"I think this man will be a hero. I have worked with him for a long time, I have seen him work as a player and seen him operate as a coach.[LNB]"I have been with the SFA since 1983 assessing A-licence certificates. All the young lads doing great in football now all looked promising.[LNB]"He is every bit as good as any of them and maybe has more than some of them."[LNB]Pressley's managerial debut comes against Jim Jefferies, who signed him for Hearts almost 12 years ago.[LNB]Jefferies is also returning to Tynecastle, taking charge of his first home game of his second spell in charge after losing three matches on the road.[LNB]He admits he will need time to deliver the type of football fans enjoyed during his first spell in charge.[LNB]"It's not just about coming back, it's about giving them what they want," he said.[LNB]"Last time, we built a side that played a certain way."[LNB][LNB] Hearts 8/11, Draw 5/2, Falkirk 4/1
