Falkirk striker Graham Barrett has been told he needs to have another knee operation and is unlikely to play until the festive period at the earliest.
The 25-year-old moved to the Bairns from Coventry City on a two-year deal in the summer but has failed to make an appearance for John Hughes' side so far this term.
Barrett suffered knee ligament damage while on a season-long loan spell at Livingston last term that needed two operations, and he then dislocated his kneecap.
"Graham has done a lot of work on his fitness but unfortunately had a setback," Hughes told the Daily Record.
"He has to go in this week to get the operation done and get his kneecap realigned. It's a little bit disappointing but he's got the full backing of us all.
"His fitness has dragged out a bit but it's important as a club that all the boys are behind him.
"When the time is right for him to get back, then great. But we're looking at about Christmas time now I'd say."
