McNamara keen to play on

Veteran defender Jackie McNamara is happy to focus on playing for Falkirk despite being linked with a move into management.

McNamara, 36, was reported to be interesting First Division outfit Partick Thistle, but the former Dunfermline and Celtic full-back is keen to continue his 19-year professional career.

"I still have a desire to play," he said. "My recent knee injury gave me a wee indication.

"You miss the training, miss the playing and those are things I want to do as long as possible.

"I see other boys a lot older than me who are still doing it. Davie Weir has avoided injuries and played a lot of games.

"When you get over a certain age, you are one game away from the legs going and being finished - that's the mentality.

"But you know yourself if you have had enough and want to call it a day. I'll keep going as long as I feel right.

"Coaching and management is the next step for me but just now I really enjoy the playing side."
