McGhee dismisses Bairns complaints

Dons manager McGhee and Hibernian counterpart John Hughes are both keen to sign Bairns captain Barr, who is due to be out of contract at the end of the season.[LNB]May has accused his Clydesdale Bank Premier League colleagues of being disrespectful to Falkirk by going public with their interest in the Scotland defender.[LNB]But McGhee hit back, saying: "I didn't walk in here and announce it to you.[LNB]"I was asked because someone at Falkirk apparently told the local reporter that there had been an enquiry or that Darren Barr had been discussed between Falkirk and ourselves.[LNB]"It certainly wasn't us who brought it into the public domain, so there's no case to answer there."[LNB]Barr is one of a number of transfer targets for Aberdeen, who are also trying to sign striker Steven MacLean from Plymouth.[LNB]But one man who will not be at Pittodrie next month is defender Maurice Ross, whose short-term contract expires in January.[LNB]McGhee said of the former Scotland player: "I always hoped that he might change his mind or that he might be persuaded to stay.[LNB]"But Maurice had remained very determined to seek his fortune and his fame elsewhere. It looks like he's going to go to China.[LNB]"Maurice has done a good job for us while he's been here."[LNB]McGhee takes his sixth-placed side to St Mirren tomorrow for a rearranged SPL fixture, which was claimed by the big freeze on Boxing Day.[LNB]The Dons were on a run of three straight defeats at the time but have since put together back-to-back wins.[LNB]McGhee is determined to make it a hat-trick tomorrow to close the gap on the sides above.[LNB]"We're very determined to continue our run and start to make progress against Dundee United and Hibs, in particular," he said.[LNB]"I'm not sure about goal difference but we certainly have an opportunity to go level on points with Hearts with a game in hand.[LNB]"Forget about three games in a row, it's an opportunity to get only nine points behind Hibs and I'll take that."[LNB]Despite winning at United and knocking Hearts out of the Active Nation Scottish Cup since the turn of the year, McGhee insists there is plenty more to come from his side.[LNB]"We're still waiting for the day when I can say I've picked the strongest team out of those that I have here at the moment," said McGhee, who believes the Dons have shown glimpses of their potential of late.[LNB]"I've seen it at times at Dundee United in the first half, I've seen it at times on Saturday and I've seen it at other times in between.[LNB]"At the moment it's still a little bit mixed."[LNB]He added: "Two good results; you can certainly use that for positive momentum.[LNB]"But it's another game; those two games are done and we have to go and win a third game."[LNB][LNB][LNB]
