May realistic over Arfield value

May revealed at the weekend that four Championship clubs were in the running to buy Arfield. But the Bairns boss is not trying to tout the Scotland Under-21 international - as he believes he could be key to Falkirk's SPL survival hopes. "There are still a few clubs who are interested in Scott," May said. "If he stays here, fantastic. If a bid comes in that is substantial, we will look at it. We are not trying to sell Scott. "Scott is a very valuable member of our squad and if he keeps on playing like he can here, we will be at the right end of the table rather than the wrong end." May is not resigned to losing Arfield, who he helped develop in his former role as youth academy head. "I can't dictate that," the former Falkirk and Hibernian midfielder said. "We have had a lot of people looking at a lot of players over the years but none have made an actual bid. "We can't help them looking. They can get tickets week in, week out and come and watch but it's up to the boy to impress and if he does that, somebody will maybe make a bid. "He is a good talent and we are not in any hurry to sell him but if the right offer came in we would have to look at it." May has made seven signings since taking over from John Hughes and has not ruled out another before the transfer window closes. "If the right player comes along, we will bring him in," May said. Hughes returns to the Falkirk Stadium on Saturday with his Hibernian side and May has urged his men to focus on the game. "What people have to do is go out and be professional about their job and create problems for Hibs," said May, whose side lost 4-1 against Rangers last weekend. "It will be an open game, an entertaining game. I think if we play like we did for a lot of the game at Ibrox there is a lot of quality there." May has set himself apart from Hughes by urging a more direct approach but he was keen to stress that would not involve a long-ball game. "I'm not asking them to be rugby players and hoof it from their own half," he said. "What I'm asking for is when the ball is in the right area, to ask questions of their defenders and the goalkeeper. They did that in certain spells (against Rangers) and scored our first goal of the season like that. "Hopefully we can score a few more with simple but direct play when the opportunity comes along." Falkirk 13/8, Hibernian 13/8, Draw 23/10
