A stunning second-half free-kick from Chris Mitchell and substitute Lee Bullen's late strike gave Falkirk all three points and closed the gap at the bottom to one point.[LNB]After inheriting a greatly reduced squad during the summer following John Hughes' defection to Hibernian, May has struggled this term.[LNB]Despite doubts over whether the appointment was the right move for the club, the directors have remained patient and May insists he appreciates the time they have given him.[LNB]He said: "It was more of a gorilla off my back rather than a monkey with the first win.[LNB]"One thing I know is that the board of directors back me. The board have been fantastic since I have been here.[LNB]"The club has had nothing but success for the past five years and the people in charge are very loyal and very realistic.[LNB]"People have to realise when it's hard, that's when you have to back the team.[LNB]"What the board has built is a training ground, fantastic academy and three stands at the stadium.[LNB]"We are still in the Premier League and not spending fortunes."[LNB]Falkirk struck twice in the second half after surviving an opening period that Hamilton dominated without finding the net.[LNB]Mitchell found the top corner of the goal in the 64th minute with a free-kick after Pedro Moutinho was felled 25 yards out.[LNB]And substitute Bullen notched a second 11 minutes from time after being set free by Carl Finnigan.[LNB]May added: "We were very fortunate to come in at level terms as Hamilton were by far the better team but we got better and scored two fantastic goals.[LNB]"It was a great strike by Chris. He does that a lot in training and he is a fantastic striker of the ball.[LNB]"I appreciate Lee coming and putting himself on the line.[LNB]"We will encourage him to fill in and we have to go and get better players to achieve what we want to achieve and that's to stay in the Premier League."[LNB]Crestfallen Hamilton manager Billy Reid, whose side are now just a point ahead of basement side Falkirk, said: "I thought we dominated the first 45 minutes. Falkirk had five minutes at the end of the first period but that was really it.[LNB]"We knew they would come out and do better and we did not start as well as we could.[LNB]"I thought we won all the battles in the middle of the park but you don't always get what you deserve."[LNB][LNB][LNB]
