May eager to build for the future

May failed to sign Ryan Flynn on a permanent deal before the transfer window closed, with the on-loan Liverpool midfielder happy to concentrate on his football. But May is still eager to complete a deal for the player well before his one-year loan expires, with a fee already agreed with the Reds. "We're still ongoing with that and we're hoping to get near a conclusion sooner rather than later," May said. May is also working on agreements with Darren Barr, whose deal expires at the end of the season, and Thomas Scobbie, who already has a three-year contract. Falkirk rejected a bid worth up to £300,000 from Hibernian for Scott Arfield before just before the transfer deadline and May is determined to keep his squad intact. "I've spoken to Darren Barr on Friday and I've also spoken to Tam Scobbie, and I've spoken to Scott about the deal Hibs made for him," the former Falkirk midfielder said. "If we can get these players to stay, we will be better for it." Falkirk host Aberdeen on Monday in the Scottish Premier League as Scottish football bids to pick itself up from the disappointment of missing out on the World Cup finals again. But Aberdeen boss Mark McGhee claims you only need to look at Scotland's players to know George Burley is the right manager to lead the country forward. McGhee went head to head with Burley and Graeme Souness for the national team job back in January last year. And he would doubtless love the opportunity to manage his country if Burley is sacked after failing to lead Scotland to the World Cup play-offs. But the Dons boss believes Burley should be given a second chance when he meets his Scottish Football Association bosses next week to learn his fate. "He has now got a group of players who, for me, clearly are behind George," said McGhee, who watched the final Group Nine matches against Macedonia and Holland. "You can see that they're playing for George. I think he has them, he has the dressing room. "I think tactically against Holland they were different class. "The changes he made against Macedonia won them the game." McGhee told BBC Scotland: "George has shown a lot over this period and I think it would be a shame if they now discarded that to allow someone else to come in and have to go through the same process. "So, for me, George is the man. He should go into the European Championships and be given the opportunity to use the experience he has gained in the World Cup campaign."
