May bemoans Falkirk's lost lead
Falkirk ended a 520-minute goal drought early in the second half but Craig Dargo and Billy Mehmet soon struck within four minutes to turn Saturday's Scottish Premier League game on its head.
By the time Tom Brighton netted his first St Mirren goal in the 86th minute, Falkirk had lost Carl Finnigan, Scott Arfield and Burton O'Brien to injury.
Finnigan could be out until December after suffering ankle ligament damage, while Arfield again succumbed to a lingering ankle problem.
The trio's injuries add to the loss of Thomas Scobbie and Kjartan Finnbogason before the game.
Scobbie faces six weeks of total rest after a recurrence of his pelvic problems while the Icelandic striker's problems sum up bottom club Falkirk's season as they continue to wait for a domestic win.
"Unfortunately for Finnbogason, he moved into a new property and the mattress wasn't the best," May said.
"He gets a sore back and then hurts his knee because of that. Hopefully he will be back sooner rather than later.
"Carl will be a while. They thought it was broken but it looks like his ligaments.
"Burton O'Brien could be out for a couple of weeks and fingers crossed Scotty is not that bad.
"That's three main players for us but it gives someone else an opportunity.
"It's important that people who are at the club are given the opportunity to win a football game.
"They have got the responsibility like everybody else to play on a Saturday."
Alex MacDonald is one who can look forward to getting a chance after he was credited with Falkirk's opener within 60 seconds of replacing Arfield.
The on-loan Burnley forward headed off the underside of the bar, although Brian McLean seemed to get the crucial, final touch.
"One goal ahead with that length of time left, it's disappointing we can't see the game out," May added. "But a couple of errors cost us and cost us very dearly."
St Mirren also suffered an injury blow when Dargo exited with a shoulder problem immediately after setting up the second goal.
The former Inverness striker, who hooked home the equaliser from a tight angle, crossed brilliantly for Andy Dorman, whose saved header was followed up by Mehmet.
Saints will know the full extent of the injury on Monday or Tuesday but the continued return to form of Dorman may help atone for any loss.
The midfielder had a hand in all three goals and such form could see him given an international chance after the Welsh FA contacted him to confirm he was now eligible for Wales.
Dorman, who was born in Chester but brought up in Wales, said: "They have been in touch, just to check my eligibility, whether or not I had been to school in Wales for five years."
The 27-year-old could now find himself in contention for a friendly against Scotland on November 14 in Cardiff.
"I've just got to be playing well for St Mirren, that's all I can worry about," he said. "You need to be at it every week."
