    Hughes hails Bairns resolve

    01 Feb 2009 - 11:47:03

Falkirk manager John Hughes was delighted to see his side ease their relegation fears with a hard-fought 1-0 victory at home to Aberdeen.

A Michael Higdon strike gave the Bairns their first win in ten SPL games and lifted them five points clear of rock-bottom Inverness Caley Thistle.

Hughes said afterwards: "The two teams were evenly matched and the overhead conditions made it difficult for real slick football, so I'm pleased for the boys.

"We showed great resilience and great character to go and get the monkey off our backs.

"It was the first time we've beaten Aberdeen since we came into the SPL and it was a good time to do it.

"I'm ever so pleased for the guys because I know what kind of guys they are and the spirit they have. They deserved it, they deserved to have something go their way."
