Hughes backs errant Scobbie

Falkirk defender Tam Scobbie won the backing of boss John Hughes after the Bairns suffered a 1-0 defeat at home to Dundee United.

Scobbie conceded the decisive penalty on Tuesday evening, but Hughes defended his player to the hilt.

He said: "I feel for Thomas. He's had a right hard season in terms of injury.

"But I know what that kid is all about, he is one you can hang your hat on. I'm not going to point the finger of blame.

"Tam's a warrior. He is right up there in the top half-dozen boys in this club.

"He plays with a great maturity and it's just one of those things. He tried to head it and it's caught the back of his hand."
