    Holden admits to dark days

    17 Oct 2008 - 10:55:01

Falkirk defender Dean Holden has admitted that his long spell out of action has been extremely frustrating.

The 29-year-old former Bolton, Oldham and Peterborough player has been sidelined since January when he suffered a double leg break in a challenge with Celtic's Stephen McManus.

After enduring two operations, Holden has finally returned to reserve team action, but says it has been a difficult nine months.

He told the Falkirk Herald: "Initially, I was quite down about the injury. Then I got my head round it, was in a really good state of mind and started focusing on returning as quickly as I could.

"But I had a setback which was a right kick in the teeth - it was worse than the actual injury - three-and-a-half months in and I was told I had to start all over again.

"I then worked on a rehabilitation programme with the physios and it's all gone very well since - to be back already and have two games under my belt is phenomenal.

"But there have been some real lows. Initially I was stuck on the sofa and couldn't even make a cup of tea, or go and check on my son when he wasn't feeling well.

"I had to learn to sleep on my back for the first time as well - it's the stupid things like that which affect you."
