Falkirk's summer signing Michael Higdon was delighted after marking his Bairns bow with a double in the 4-0 rout of SPL new boys Gretna.
The 23-year-old former Crewe Alexandra frontman netted twice in the opening 24 minutes at Fir Park, but failed to complete a debut hat-trick after spurning a couple of later chances.
Higdon said afterwards: "John Hughes has a laugh and joke, but you know when it has to be serious. I'm delighted to be working for him.
"He showed great faith in me by bringing me to Falkirk and the two goals were a reward for him.
"I should have done even better. Hat-tricks don't come along too often, but hopefully it will come in the next game."
