Higdon hopes to silence critics

The 25-year-old striker revealed the squad's anger at the small band of dissenters who are determined to force out manager John Hughes.[LNB]Supporters claiming to speak for fans' group the Bairns Trust last week wrote an open letter to chairman Campbell Christie demanding Hughes' removal.[LNB]They are unhappy at the club's SPL plight, which sees them four points adrift at the foot of the table with only the five post-split fixtures remaining.[LNB]Yet Hughes has also led the club to two domestic cup semi-finals this season, the second of which is Sunday's Scottish Cup clash with Dunfermline.[LNB]Should Falkirk avoid relegation and lift a major trophy for the first time since 1957, it would be arguably the greatest season in their history.[LNB]"I'd like to see some of the fans' faces if that was to happen," Higdon said.[LNB]"There would be a few of us gloating in front of them."[LNB]Apart from this season, Hughes' six years in charge of Falkirk have been an unqualified success and Higdon has no doubt he is the right man to lead them to SPL safety.[LNB]"Every player in that changing room is with the gaffer, no doubt about it," he said.[LNB]"He's the man for us, without a shadow of a doubt.[LNB]"We go out there and play; we make the mistakes. If I miss a goal, it's my fault, no-one else's.[LNB]"The fans have a right to say what they want. I don't think we agree with everything they say.[LNB]"Maybe the expectation for this season was too high."[LNB]He added: "We understand the frustration of the fans, but it's never going to help anyone if you're getting criticised, no matter what work you do.[LNB]"If someone is criticising you, how's that meant to help your performance?"[LNB]Higdon, who joined Falkirk from Crewe in the summer of 2007, is at a loss to explain the club's performances this season.[LNB]Ever since their promotion in 2005, the Bairns have looked every inch at home in the SPL.[LNB]Higdon said: "The way we played last season, we were really good. We looked like scoring all the time, (playing) free-flowing football - it was great.[LNB]"And in my opinion, we got better players in this season and that bit of experience and it's just not clicked - I don't know what the reason is.[LNB]"The forwards aren't scoring enough and the defenders aren't keeping clean sheets.[LNB]"We've just got to stick at it and hopefully if we stay up and win a cup, what a season that's been."[LNB][LNB][LNB] Falkirk v Dunfermline.
