Gus frustrated by late leveller
The Buddies were leading 1-0 going into the final three minutes of Satuurday's SPL clash at St Mirren Park after Michael Higdon returned to his former club with one of the goals of the season.[LNB]But Carl Finnigan snatched a precious point for the Bairns two minutes from time to prevent his side going five points adrift at the foot of the able.[LNB]Describing the game as "two points dropped", MacPherson said: "It was probably the poorest we've played for the last five or six weeks but we got ourselves into a winning position and to lose it so late on is just frustrating.[LNB]"We've said that against the better teams - the top three or four teams in the league - mistakes at crucial times are costing us.[LNB]"But you don't get any more crucial than the last couple of minutes in a game at home, when you're in that winning position."[LNB]Falkirk were rewarded for pouring forward in search of an equaliser in the final 10 minutes but MacPherson insists his side should have held out.[LNB]"The supply's come in but we could defend it better once it goes into that area," he said.[LNB]"You think at that stage you should just be able to see the ball out of those areas and defend it."[LNB]The draw was St Mirren's fifth in eight home games this season as they continue to struggle to record victories in the stadium they moved into in January.[LNB]MacPherson added: "It's a source of frustration that, yet again, we're drawing at home and you should be able to see the game out."[LNB]However, the Buddies boss was delighted with Higdon's incredible 35-yard volley which crashed in off the crossbar despite the efforts of Robert Olejnik.[LNB]"Everybody expects Michael just to be a target man, because of his physical presence," MacPherson said.[LNB]"But he's technically a better player than I gave him credit for until I worked with him.[LNB]"But that just shows the quality he's got, that he's used his presence to hold off the defender and then unleash an unstoppable shot."[LNB]Falkirk boss Eddie May agreed, saying: "I thought it was a great strike, great technique by Michael Higdon. I'd rather praise him than criticise our goalkeeper.[LNB]"It was an excellent goal.[LNB]"We got back into it and asked a few questions."[LNB]May thought his side had equalised when Pedro Moutinho sneaked up behind Paul Gallacher and robbed him when the keeper was bouncing the ball.[LNB]Referee Craig Thomson ruled out the goal and May said: "It's still in the goalkeeper's possession. That's what the referee told the fourth official.[LNB]"I can't understand it.[LNB]"They seemed to change the rules a couple of years ago but they didn't tell anybody."[LNB]MacPherson was adamant Thomson had made the right call, saying: "You're not allowed to interfere with the goalkeeper."[LNB]For the fourth week in a row, May turned to the veteran Lee Bullen to change the game in the second half today.[LNB]He said: "Lee Bullen has fantastic for us.[LNB]"Unfortunately, he's 38 years old so he's probably not able to a full game, more like 45 minutes for Lee.[LNB]"He's playing very well, certainly better than he played last season."[LNB][LNB]
