Finnigan: Bairns can stay up

Falkirk striker Carl Finnigan claims their late escape from relegation last season can help them to beat the drop again.[LNB] Falkirk were heading for the Irn-Bru First Division until Michael Higdon's goal at Inverness 20 minutes before the end of the campaign put the home side down.[LNB]Falkirk, who travel to Motherwell on Saturday, are again favourites to go down as they languish four points adrift at the foot of the Scottish Premier League.[LNB]But Finnigan feels their experience can give them the inner strength to get out of trouble again.[LNB]The 23-year-old said: "It was the same position last year, we were at the bottom for a long time during the season and we were still in the SPL come the end of the season.[LNB]"So we have that confidence and belief that it can happen no matter what, and it's not over until that 90 minutes is up on the last game of the season. We all believe that.[LNB]"Obviously, we want to get out of that situation before the last 20 minutes of the season, but if it comes down to that, I know we'll have strength of character to carry on and hopefully get out of it."[LNB]Falkirk have put in some improved displays in recent weeks but they are without a victory in six matches.[LNB]However, manager Steven Pressley has encouraged his side to keep playing the way they have while adding a clinical edge to their game.[LNB]"The performances have been good but good performances aren't enough to get us out of relegation, we need to turn them into wins," Finnigan added.[LNB]"It could take a bad performance and a win to pick things up, but we're going to keep doing things the way we have been.[LNB]"Nothing has changed training-wise or mentality-wise, we just need a bit more luck and that ruthless edge."[LNB]The former Newcastle trainee has been restricted to half an hour of first-team action since Pressley's first match in charge, after being struck by a hamstring injury.[LNB]But he is ready to start at Fir Park, with Enoch Showunmi struggling with a foot problem.[LNB]"It's been a difficult five or six weeks for me because having the new management and being injured isn't ideal," Finnigan said.[LNB]"But I've been involved in the last two games and I've got a full week's training under my belt."[LNB]
