Falkirk boss knows it will be close

Falkirk missed the chance to extend their two-point lead over the Highlanders when they fell to a 1-0 home defeat by Dundee United on Tuesday night. Former Celtic defender Hughes was happy with his team's effort and commitment against United, but feels they need to show more initiative. He said: "I'm honest enough to tell you that, from between now and the end of the season, I can't see us pulling 10 points away from Inverness, or them pulling 10 points away from us. "We're hoping to pull a couple of teams nearer to us but to do that you have to win football matches. "I'm looking for my boys to be more courageous in getting on the ball and making it happen instead of waiting on it and hoping it happens. "We know where we are and if we're going to get beat in a football match I would rather the boys go out there and express themselves. "I have been saying that for the last two or three weeks. "And if we get beat and make a mistake, so what? "The reason I'm saying that is because that's when we're at our best, when we play that style of football." United's victory, sealed by a Craig Conway penalty following a blatant handball by Thomas Scobbie, was only their second in the SPL this year. United manager Craig Levein admits the loss of Willo Flood to Celtic and Scott Robertson's groin injury has affected his team. But, with Robertson's return imminent and on-loan Leicester player James Wesolowski finding fitness, Levein is confident his midfield balance is returning. United played a 4-5-1 formation at Falkirk, with Wesolowski rested following his debut in Saturday's 1-0 defeat by Hearts, but Levein is hoping to unleash two strikers on opponents. "Now that I have got Wesolowski and we will get Scott Robertson back, we have the opportunity," he said. "On Saturday for the first time in a while we played a 4-4-2 and I was really comfortable with the system. "We have a lot of good strikers and I want to get them on the field. "Losing Willo and Scott Robertson kind of threw everything up in the air. "One of them I could have coped with but not the two of them. If you look at our team earlier in the season when we went on that fantastic run, both of them played every single game."
