Beck at the double

Falkirk's Mark Beck fired a double in a 3-1 win against Alloa, but victory was not enough to lift his side above third place in the Scottish Championship.

Beck's goals midway through the first half and in stoppage time sandwiched Craig Sibbald's effort and ensured Falkirk sealed a play-off place, but Dundee secured the title with a 2-1 home win against Dumbarton and Hamilton ran amok in a 10-2 thrashing of bottom club Morton to finish second, leaving the Bairns to take the longer route in their bid for promotion.

Beck gave Falkirk a 23rd-minute lead and although Kevin Cawley levelled six minutes later for Alloa, the home side continued to press and were rewarded with Sibbald's 62nd-minute strike.

Alloa were fighting for their survival and midfielder Ryan McCord forced Falkirk goalkeeper Michael McGovern into a fine 69th-minute save, but although Beck headed Falkirk's third in time added on, Cowdenbeath conceded a late equaliser at home against Queen of the South and the visitors were spared a place in the relegation play-offs.
