Dunfermline eye Scottish Cup boost

However, he claims the excitement generated around the town would mean even more. Jim McIntyre's team have endured a frustrating second season in the Irn-Bru First Division as a promotion challenge again failed to materialise. Dunfermline, one of the pre-season favourites to go up, even found themselves looking anxiously over their shoulders after a run of five matches without a win saw Airdrie move five points behind them as the Diamonds look to avoid a relegation play-off. A 3-1 victory over Ross County on Saturday eased those fears and now Yorkston is hoping the club can bring some cheer back to the Fife town by making the final on Sunday. "It would mean half a million plus coming into the coffers so that allows us to be a wee bit more generous when we're doing the budgets for next season," Yorkston said. "But the main thing is the effect it has on the town. It's unbelievable the effect it has on Dunfermline when we do get a final. "The shops are all decorated with black and white, there are cups, flags, there just seems to be a buzz that goes about the place." Dunfermline have a good recent record in semi-finals, beating Inverness, Livingston and Hibernian to set up three final defeats by Celtic in both domestic competitions since 2004. "League form is the main thing and we've not been too good at that this season," Yorkston said. "But we're delighted to be back at Hampden. We've been there a number of times in the last few years. "I think we've got the most successful cup record outwith the Old Firm in the last six years. "It's very difficult to say why. We've been there with four different managers now so we can't put it down to the manager. "There are different sets of players, so it must be something in the water here." The club today announced that plant hire firm, The Purvis Group, had extended their shirt sponsorship deal for next season. And another Hampden appearance in May would be a huge boost for their promotion hopes next term as the club continues to restructure their finances following their relegation in 2007. "We're getting there," Yorkston said. "It's very hard to budget now for next season. "You don't know what your gates are going to be, you don't know what your cup run is going to be. "We certainly didn't budget for a semi-final so that's a boost. "However, we did budget for slightly higher gates, so what you lose on one hand you gain on the other. "It's very difficult when a lot is depending on what goes on on the park for your gate money, which is a big part of your income, to accurately gauge what the income is going to be." Falkirk Evens, Draw 9/4, Dunfermline 3/1
