Davis targets SPL title triumph

Rangers struggled to register a 1-0 win at Falkirk on Sunday in their first game since Ibrox duo Barry Ferguson and Allan McGregor hit the headlines as a result of their behaviour while on international duty with Scotland last week. Both were involved in a lengthy drinking session at the team hotel last weekend after returning from Amsterdam - but it was the V-signs they flicked while sitting on the bench at Hampden on Wednesday which prompted Rangers to take drastic action. Ferguson was stripped of the captaincy and both players were sent home after being suspended without pay for two weeks - the maximum punishment the club can hand out. They have also been banned from representing the national team again and a question mark now hangs over their Rangers futures, with speculation rife that they may have played their last games for the club. Rangers already faced an uphill battle in the race for the championship - they still trail Celtic by three points - and Davis concedes the task will be even more difficult now without two of their key players. The midfielder said: "We all know they are two quality players and they would be a big miss to any side. "It would be a massive achievement if we were to go on and win the league and that's what the boys are focused on." He added: "Throughout the season, you are going to lose different players through different scenarios. "We were also missing Kenny Miller and Kyle Lafferty through injury as well for this game. That happens throughout the course of the season. "Obviously you wouldn't ask for these scenarios but it's something you have to deal with as you go along." Kris Boyd netted the only goal of the game to secure the three points but only after Rangers were forced to survive an onslaught from bottom side Falkirk in the second half. Asked what the mood was like in the dressing room heading into the game following the events of the last few days, Davis said: "It was just business as usual. We were just concentrating on the game. "We didn't play as well as we would have liked to but we showed good resilience to get the three points in the end." Falkirk defender Lee Bullen believes the loss of influential players such as Ferguson and McGregor must have a detrimental effect on Rangers' title hopes. "I would say both are fantastic players and any team losing two players of their quality are going to be slightly weaker," he said. And, when asked if he expects to see either in a Rangers jersey again, he added: "For the two lads, I really hope so." Falkirk face the other half of the Old Firm this midweek when they head to Celtic Park hoping for at least a point to bolster their survival hopes. Boss John Hughes said: "It's always a tough venue to go to and by all accounts they were outstanding on Saturday. "But we have to go there and be resolute and have trust in each other to pass the ball. "If we don't, there is no point turning up. But I believe we have that belief in the dressing room." Rangers 2/5, Draw 10/3, St Mirren 15/2
