Barr hopes form led to call-up

Barr has been included in the Scotland squad for the World Cup qualifier against Holland at the end of the month. Pressley doubles up his coaching role with the national team with defensive duties at Falkirk, alongside captain Barr, who earned his first cap in a 0-0 friendly draw against Northern Ireland at Hampden Park last August. After becoming the first Bairns player to play for Scotland since John White in 1959, he is hoping to be included in George Burley's squad for the March 28 game against the Dutch. The 23-year-old, at Hampden to model the new Scotland away kit, acknowledged the influence Pressley has had on him since he joined the club in the January transfer window, but is keen to progress his international career on his own merits. "Steven is a good, experienced professional and you can see that in the way he trains," Barr said. "If I can learn from him then that would be great, obviously. "But I would hate to think that people were saying that I only got the call because of him. I would like to think my form is okay." Falkirk have struggled this season and have slipped to the bottom of the Scottish Premier League, but they made history by winning at Inverness in their Homecoming Scottish Cup quarter-final tie on Saturday. The victory put them into a second semi-final this season, the first time that has been achieved since they were formed in 1876. The Bairns lost to Rangers in the Co-operative Insurance Cup semi-final at Hampden but look to have a better chance of making the final of the Scottish Cup when they face the winners of the Aberdeen and Dunfermline replay. However, Barr insists retaining their top-flight status is paramount. He said: "You can't really put your finger on why our league form is not what we would like it to be. "Fair enough, reaching two semi-finals is great, but the league is our priority this season. We take the cup as a bonus. "Hopefully we can pick up and make it a good finish to the season and we have to hope that the win at the weekend will spur us on."
