Falkirk boss John Hughes has confirmed that defender Dean Holden will not have recovered from a serious leg injury in time for the start of the new SPL season.
The 28-year-old suffered a double fracture of his leg against Celtic in late January and has needed two rounds of surgery to try and correct the break.
Hughes told the Falkirk Herald: "Dean needed a second operation because, when the plaster was initially removed, there was a slight curvature in the bone.
"We got in touch with a surgeon in Newcastle and, luckily, he operated straight away.
"But there initially appeared to be a problem as Dean had fractured his leg before and it didn't look like the pin could be inserted.
"However, that was remedied and, although the process knocked him back a month or so, we are really pleased with his progress and everyone has been given a big lift from that.
"We are hopeful that he will get the boots back on again towards the end of pre-season, although the start of the new campaign may be a bit too soon for him to be playing."
