Bairns down after Killie draw
08 May 2010 - 14:26:40
Falkirk have been relegated from the SPL after their last-day clash with Kilmarnock at Rugby Park ended in a tense goalless draw.
The Bairns needed a win to send Killie down, but were unable to find a way through in a game high on passion and commitment, but lacking in clear-cut chances.
The stalemate left Steven Pressley's side two points adrift of safety at the foot of the table and facing life in division one, with Inverness Caley Thistle heading in the opposite direction.
Mark McGhee's Aberdeen ended a disappointing season with a 1-0 victory at St Mirren.
The visitors scored the winner just before the half-hour mark at St Mirren Park, when Darren Mackie's volley from a Clark Robertson cross was deflected into the net by Buddies defender Lee Mair.
St Johnstone battled back from two goals down to draw 2-2 at home to Hamilton Academical, with the Saints finishing seventh as a result of their recovery at McDiarmid Park.
A Mark McLaughlin header and a Dougie Imrie free-kick gave the Accies a two-goal lead after just 15 minutes and it took until four minutes into the second half for Murray Davidson to halve the deficit.
Midway through the second period it was all-square as Liam Craig netted the rebound after his penalty kick had been saved by Sean Murdoch in the visitors' goal.
