Bairns need to sell Arfield

Falkirk chairman Martin Ritchie has admitted that the club will need to sell star midfielder Scott Arfield in the summer just to try and balance the books.

The 21-year-old Scotland Under-21 international almost left the Bairns in the last two transfer windows, but Ritchie says that a sale is a necessity in a few months' time.

He commented: "I would like to see Scott Arfield score a few goals and see his price go up. Hopefully someone will come in for him in the summer.

"We need players coming out of our academy and we need to move them on.

"It's going to be an horrifically difficult financial year. We've had no breaks, we have gone out of both cups at the first stage and we have not had a windfall of a player transfer.

"The upside for this year must be to give us a chance next year by staying in the SPL."
