Bairns lose Cregg appeal
21 Jan 2009 - 12:02:10
Falkirk have been unsuccessful with their appeal against Patrick Cregg's red card in the 3-1 weekend defeat by Rangers.
Cregg was dismissed by referee Willie Collum for a two-footed challenge on Pedro Mendes early on in the second half at Ibrox, with the Bairns feeling the sending-off was harsh.
However, an SFA statement confirmed: "Any player who lunges at an opponent in challenging for the ball from the front, from the side or from behind using one or both legs, with excessive force and endangering the safety of an opponent is guilty of serious foul play."
Falkirk boss John Hughes had been critical of Mr Collum's performance straight after the game.
He had commented: "There were three big decisions in the game - the penalty and the two sendings-off - and I thought he got them all wrong."
