The Westfield outfit launched the search for a new boss when Hughes quit for Scottish Premier League rivals Hibernian last week. Steven Pressley and Eddie May, who heads the club's youth development programme, have emerged as the leading contenders for the job, possibly as a partnership. Scotland assistant coach Pressley revealed his interest in the vacancy at the weekend, following five months as a player at Falkirk. Jackie McNamara and Neil McCann have jointly applied, while former Dundee boss Alex Rae has also been linked with the position. A statement on the club's official website said: "Negotiations are ongoing in the appointment of the new Falkirk manager. "Falkirk Football Club hopes to be in a position by the end of this week to announce the appointment of the new manager. "The club have taken their time in making this appointment and will not be rushed into a decision. "The club will only announce the appointment once all appropriate negotiations have been confirmed."
