Bairns ready to fight - Hughes

David Clarkson headed home after sustained first-half pressure from the home side to prompt Hughes to overhaul his tactics.[LNB]He instructed his team to play long on a bumpy pitch, and the tactic paid off as Dean Holden volleyed home a spectacular equaliser after a half-cleared free-kick.[LNB]Falkirk had a good slice of luck as both Clarkson and Jim O'Brien struck their crossbar but Hughes was delighted with their attitude as they moved two points clear of bottom club Inverness.[LNB]"The young boys will have to learn the fundamental side of the game in terms of winning headers, banging it up, taking the pressure off," he said. "It can't always be pretty stuff and wee angles through the middle.[LNB]"I will never lose my principles on how the game should be played. But my job is to keep the club in the SPL and we're on target for that.[LNB]"So it's going to be like that, we are going to be hard to beat and we're going to be resolute and dig it out. And a point at Fir Park is a massive result."[LNB]Holden was fully behind his manager's instructions and he relished the fiery second half.[LNB]"We were getting caught in the first half with a few little tippy-tappy passes in midfield," he said. "There is no point playing good football and coming away with nothing.[LNB]"The only way we are going to get out of trouble is by fighting for every ball and people throwing themselves on the line.[LNB]"You see people coming off there with blood and that's the way football should be."[LNB]Chris Porter and Marc Fitzpatrick also missed gilt-edged chances for Motherwell, whose sense of missed opportunity heightened when they learned Hearts and Dundee United had scored late winners to move further ahead in the race for Europe.[LNB]Clarkson said: "Considering the chances we had we are disappointed not to put the game beyond Falkirk.[LNB]"We have come so far in the past four or five weeks and we showed we are back to near enough our best. But we have got to win games.[LNB]"At 1-0 up, the next goal is always important and if we score we could go on and control the game and maybe score three or four. But it went the opposite way and they held out well."[LNB]Well are scheduled to play their twice-postponed Homecoming Scottish Cup clash at Inverurie Locos tomorrow but there is doubt over whether the pitch will survive an early-morning inspection.[LNB]However, Clarkson brushed off fears that the fixture was becoming a disruptive element in Motherwell's season.[LNB]"It's a bit frustrating sometimes but as long as we are not travelling up there and then it gets called off, then it would be a waste of a day," he said.[LNB]"At least when it gets called off the day before or early in the morning we manage to train and it's our normal routine."[LNB][LNB][LNB]
