Bairns look to push on after win

The Bairns had found themselves dragged into the relegation zone after a dire run of only one victory in 13 games but Michael Higdon's 55th-minute strike gave them a 1-0 win over the Dons.[LNB]It was only their third triumph over Aberdeen in the last 47 meetings between the sides but came at a vital time for John Hughes' embattled side.[LNB]Falkirk, reeling from being knocked out of the Co-operative Insurance Cup semi-finals by Rangers in midweek, started nervously but hung on to their slender lead with great determination after Higdon drove into the top corner from the edge of the box.[LNB]And Lovell believes the realisation of the seriousness of the club's predicament has finally hit home.[LNB]He said: "We had heard that Falkirk hadn't beaten Aberdeen for 15 years but it wasn't on our minds. We needed to win, or have a good result, full stop, and we did that.[LNB]"We weren't picking up points and we hadn't won in a long time, and that just makes it a little bit sweeter for us.[LNB]"I don't feel that confidence has been a problem for us. The boys are going into games and we are confident but we've just conceded a lot of sloppy goals.[LNB]"It just worked for us on Saturday. Every player, even the subs that came on, gave 100% and it was just the perfect ending we needed.[LNB]"We're just pleased that we managed to get the three points. I feel it's maybe coming together a bit now, we know how serious it is and we need to pick up points - and do it now."[LNB]Lovell played Higdon through for the only goal of the game and the Falkirk rearguard defended stoutly throughout, with recent recruit Steven Pressley a key figure.[LNB]The former Celtic, Rangers and Hearts centre-half used all his experience to restrict Aberdeen to few chances, with the best the Pittodrie men did create falling to Scott Severin.[LNB]And Lovell reckons Pressley has already shown his worth since signing a short-term deal with the club.[LNB]He added: "He's a leader and he's got that experience, and he's still talking at the end of the game. You can hear him getting the boys to dig in.[LNB]"The game's not over until it's over, as we've found out a few times and we needed to see it out.[LNB]"We did that and I think he's been a brilliant signing for us."[LNB]For Aberdeen, it was a disappointing afternoon after the win over Celtic and the draw with Rangers had raised hopes of a push for third place.[LNB]Manager Jimmy Calderwood bemoaned his players' failure to play to the standards they had set in recent weeks and, despite ending the match with an attacking formation, saw his team create few clear-cut chances.[LNB]He said: "We kept putting forwards on and took a chance but you can tell when it's not going to be your day."[LNB][LNB]
