Bairns delay boss announcement

Bairns chiefs had hoped to name John Hughes' successor on Friday but the announcement will now take place early next week. It is widely speculated that the new boss will be Eddie May, who heads the club's youth development programme, and that he will be assisted by Steven Pressley and Alex Smith. Falkirk launched the search for a new manager when Hughes quit for Scottish Premier League rivals Hibernian. Jackie McNamara and Neil McCann jointly applied for the job, while former Dundee boss Alex Rae was also linked with the position. However, club bosses are believed to have opted for the man credited with the development of players such as Darren Barr, Scott Arfield and Thomas Scobbie. According to the club's website, negotiations have been taking place all this week to finalise contracts and this process has now been completed. Managing director George Craig said: "I would have liked to announce the new manager on Friday but these things always take a bit longer than you think. "There are procedures you have to go through and the people involved have to be given time to discuss it with their families. "However, everything is now in place and I look forward to making the announcement on Tuesday."
