Arfield bullish over Bairns chances

The Bairns set out to frustrate their hosts in the meeting between the teams on January 17 and saw everything go according to plan following Steve Lovell's 12th-minute opener until Kris Boyd scored a disputed penalty just before half-time.[LNB]John Hughes' outfit then held their own, despite Patrick Cregg's controversial 51st-minute red card, which Falkirk subsequently failed to have overturned on appeal.[LNB]Late goals from Kris Boyd and Steve Davis, however, earned Rangers what looked like a comfortable victory.[LNB]But, despite the eventual 3-1 defeat, Arfield reckons he and his team-mates can take enough positives from the match to go into their fight for a first final in 11 years with hope of success.[LNB]The 20-year-old said: "Our recent performance against Rangers gives us confidence, especially as it was at an arena like Ibrox. It shows you we're prepared to go and have a go at them.[LNB]"We went to Ibrox and didn't just make up the numbers. We had a go and it shows you the character we've got in the squad.[LNB]"We're second bottom in the league and we could easily have gone there and camped out and hidden for a draw, and we can take positives from that game.[LNB]"I think it was the perfect approach and the perfect formation. The way we went about our business was brilliant.[LNB]"Hampden is just another occasion for us to show how good we are."[LNB]Arfield has shot to prominence in the last two seasons but admits he will be facing the toughest opposition in Scottish football at Hampden.[LNB]However, he is hopeful the prospect of taking on Rangers' celebrated midfield in such a crucial game will bring out the best in him and his team-mates.[LNB]He added: "I think Rangers have got the best midfield in the league, by far, just because of the way Pedro Mendes plays, and Barry Ferguson and Steve Davis as well. The three of them are top, top players.[LNB]"It's brilliant to be involved and playing against players like that, it's great experience.[LNB]"It motivates you and inspires you, to be playing against players like that in an arena like Hampden. You don't really want to hide, you just want to go out and do your best."[LNB][LNB]
