Greg Dyke's appointment as new independent chairman of the Football Association has been ratified by the organisation's council.

Dyke, 65, will succeed David Bernstein on July 13, who is leaving the post after two-and-a-half years due to reaching the age limit of 70.

Dyke said: "I'm flattered that the FA council has unanimously supported my appointment as chairman of the FA and I am looking forward to taking up the role in July.

"I will be outlining my priorities for the future of the FA in due course."
