Sercombe ready for challenge

Exeter City youth product Liam Sercombe is ready to replace the departed Matt Gill's central midfield berth he held last season.

After Gill left St. James' Park for League One rivals Norwich City, Sercombe is confident he can step into his and fill the void in the centre of the park.

Speaking to the Express & Echo, he said: "Now Gilly has gone they are looking to play me more in midfield.

"Last year I played mainly down the right, but hopefully I can do the job Gilly was doing."

The newly promoted Grecians open up their League One campaign away to much-fancied Leeds United next Saturday.
