Charlton Athletic took advantage of Leeds' slip as they won 2-1 at Wycombe Wanderers.
Jonjo Shelvey gave the Addicks the lead at Adams Park, but Jon-Paul Pittman equalised in the 64th minute. However, the visitors had the last word as Nicky Bailey scored his tenth goal of the season to wrap up all three points.
Chris Martin scored a first-half brace for Norwich City against Colchester United before further goals by Gary Doherty, Oli Johnson and Grant Holt completed a comfortable 5-0 win for the Canaries.
A Myles Weston double helped Brentford to a 3-1 win over Carlisle United. Ian Harte pulled one back from the penalty spot but it was not enough as Ryan Dickson made the points safe deep into injury time.
MK Dons crushed Hartlepool 5-0 away from home. An early Jermaine Easter strike put the visitors ahead before an own goal by Gary Liddle doubled their advantage. Peter Leven extended the visitors' lead after the break before Sam Baldock and Jason Puncheon completed the rout.
Jordan Rhodes scored just before the break to give Huddersfield a 1-0 lead over Southend and he then doubled that advantage midway through the second period. Substitute Jordan Spencer did pull one back in injury time, but it was to no avail.
Despite last-minute drama at the New Den, Millwall and Southampton were inseparable. Ricky Lambert thought he had won it for the visitors in injury time, but Liam Trotter somehow found time to snatch an even later equaliser as it ended 1-1.
Swindon claimed a comfortable 3-1 win over Gillingham thanks to goals by Charlie Austin, Scott Cuthbert and Billy Paynter before Chris Palmer got a late consolation goal for the visitors from Kent.
Glenn Murray opened the scoring for Brighton at Walsall before Matthew Richards levelled the scores. However, Nick Forster re-established the visitors' lead before the break and they managed to hold on to secure all three points.
