Exeter City have been hit with a transfer embargo after failing to pay a £10,000 instalment of Sean Devine's transfer fee to Wycombe.
The directors of the relegation-threatened club have agreed to fund the payment themselves in order that new boss Gary Peters will be able to add to his squad before the transfer deadline, but are angry at the conduct of the Chairboys.
"We have the money to pay them and things will be resolved in the next two days," co-chairman John Russell told the Exeter Express & Echo.
"We have all agreed to chip in to pay this, myself, (co-chairman) Uri Geller, (vice-chairman) Mike Lewis and (associate director) Malcolm Shelbourne.
"But I am quite upset with the way Wycombe have dealt with it .
"We've already paid them £10,000 and now they've contacted the Football League within five or six days of us receiving an invoice.
"I am also upset that Wycombe Wanderers could have picked up the telephone and spoken to Mike Lewis or myself before going to the League. But if Gary Peters says to me that he wants to bring in a couple of players for Saturday then, as soon as he has spotted those players, we'll bring them in."
