Grecians end Watts interest

Exeter City boss Gary Peters has decided against signing Leyton Orient striker Steve Watts.

The 26-year-old has been told that he has no future at Brisbane Road and, after impressive loan spells with Margate, Lincoln and Dagenham & Redbridge this season, Peters appeared keen to sign the player.

But Grecians vice chairman Mike Lewis told the Exeter Express & Echo: "Steve Watts was on our hit list but that interest has not been followed up."

However Lewis believes that the club will be able to have their transfer embargo lifted in time to sign an as yet un-named player to play in Saturday's game with Rochdale.

"By Saturday we hope to have a new signing," he added.

"We are very confident of getting the embargo lifted as we are paying the £11,000 owed to Wycombe."
