Exeter City's appeal against a 12-point deduction by the Nationwide Conference for entering a CVA has been left unanswered by the FA Appeal Board.
The Grecians faced dropping well out of the play-off picture with the loss of the points, but will have to wait to see if they are successful in their efforts to have the penalty reduced or removed.
An FA statement read: "A Football Association Appeal Board heard submissions from Exeter City and from the Nationwide Conference in relation to the purported deduction of points following the club's entry into a Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA) on 16th October 2003.
"The Appeal Board took the view it did not have jurisdiction to hear an appeal at this stage, because of procedural questions which arose in the manner by which the original decision was taken and the consequent appeal process.
"No decision has been reached, either supporting or rejecting the question which arose, for a points deduction potentially to be suffered by the club as a result of going into a Voluntary Arrangement with its creditors."
