Former Preston player Eddie Lewis has died at the age of 76 after a fight with cancer. The striker, who could also operate in defence, arrived at Deepdale in 1955 from Manchester United for a fee of £9,000. After scoring on his debut against Aston Villa in December 1955, the original Busby Babe only played 13 times for Preston before moving on in the early stages of the 1956/57 campaign. He later played for West Ham and Leyton Orient before he moved to South Africa in 1970. A club statement from Preston said: "Preston North End would like to send their deepest condolences to Eddie's family at this sad time."
