Grecians stun high-flying Shrews

Exeter staged a stunning second half comeback as they overturned a 2-0 half-time deficit to beat Shrewsbury 3-2 in a thriller at St James' Park.

Two-goal Tom Nichols was the hero with a stoppage time winner, while substitute David Wheeler was also on target for the Grecians, who trailed to two first half goals by Shrewsbury's James Collins.

The deadlock was broken in the 13th minute as a long-range shot by Collins squirmed under the body of Exeter debutant goalkeeper James Hamon body and into the net.

Collins then tapped in from close range in the 34th minute after Hamon had denied James Weslowski.

Exeter needed a quick response and they got it as Nichols turned in Matt Grimes' cross within a minute of the restart and Wheeler levelled it up with a fine header from Matt Oakley's cross 15 minutes from time.

Shrewsbury paid the price for their constant time wasting as in stoppage time, Liam Sercombe's cross found its way to Wheeler at the back post, who kept calm to head over Jayson Leutwiler and send the Exeter fans into raptures.
