Exeter held by Morecambe despite late leveller

Exeter brought the curtain down on their home campaign with a disappointing 1-1 draw against Morecambe.

Exeter had the better of the chances in a rather lacklustre first half, with Lee Holmes twice having curling shots saved by goalkeeper Barry Roche, while Morecambe did not test home goalkeeper Bobby Olejnik.

Morecambe should have taken the lead on the hour mark when Aaron Wildig found himself through on goal but with only Olejnik to beat, he screwed his shot horribly wide.

The home side then went close when Jayden Stockley almost turned in a fine cross by substitute Jamie Reid and then headed a great chance wide from Jake Taylor's cross.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 85th minute when Exeter made a mess of clearing their lines and the ball was played square to Kevin Ellison, who lashed the ball past Olejnik from 10 yards.

Exeter hit back to equalise four minutes later when they were awarded a penalty after handball by Adam Dugdale and Stockley sent Roche the wrong way from the spot.
