Exeter and Barnet share spoils in sunny Devon

The play-off aspirations of both Exeter and Barnet were effectively ended at St James' Park as the two sides battled to a 1-1 draw in the Devon sunshine.

Exeter made a superb start to the game and got the goal their play deserved on 20 minutes. Matt Oakley drilled a fine cross the back post, where Jayden Stockley ghosted in to thump an emphatic header past Jamie Stephens.

However, the lead was short-lived as Barnet benefited from a contentious decision on the touchline, where the ball appeared to go out of play, and Elliot Johnson crossed for Curtis Weston to head in from 10 yards.

Stockley crashed a curling free-kick against the inside of the post at the beginning of the second half for Exeter, while John Akinde then missed a golden chance to put the Bees in front when he was fouled in the box by Jordan Moore-Taylor, but tamely tapped his spot-kick into the waiting arms of Bobby Olejnik.

Exeter had a great chance to win it themselves straight from the missed penalty, but Ryan Harley blazed over the bar from eight yards as the match ended in stalemate.
