Yakubu in Toffees trouble

Nigeria striker Ayegbeni Yakubu is in hot water with Everton after failing to report back following his country's exit from the Africa Cup of Nations.

The 25-year-old forward joined the Toffees from Middlesbrough in a club record £11.25million transfer in August.

The powerful frontman has found the net 12 times for his new club after making an impressive start to life on Merseyside.

However, he could be hit with the two-week fine by furious boss David Moyes - the maximum possible - after failing to report back at Goodison Park as expected on Wednesday.

Yakubu was due back in Britain in time for Saturday's clash with Reading after Nigeria were knocked out of the Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday.

The former Portsmouth and Boro striker was on the mark from the penalty spot in the 2-1 quarter-final defeat in Accra.

Yakubu's international team-mate, Joseph Yobo, had returned to the club as expected.
