Yakubu back after apology
14 Feb 2008 - 12:04:39
Everton striker Ayegbeni Yakubu has revealed he apologised to his team-mates for his late return from the Africa Cup of Nations.
The Nigeria striker returned to the starting line-up for Wednesday night's 2-0 victory over SK Brann in the UEFA Cup.
However, last weekend he was dropped from the squad to face Reading after returning to Merseyside three days later than expected after Nigeria's exit from the international tournament in Ghana.
Toffees boss David Moyes was furious at his £11million striker's no-show and reportedly fined Yakubu the two maximum weeks' wages.
"I feel like a part of a family here with everyone working together," he told the club's official website.
"We want to win something and achieve something together. I am so pleased to be playing again and it is thanks to the players and the manager.
"I came back late and I have apologised to everyone for that - the supporters too.
"It happened for personal reasons but I promise it won't happen again. I am so pleased to be back again now and playing again."
