    Wyness quits Toffees post

    30 Jul 2008 - 08:05:44

Everton chief executive Keith Wyness has resigned his position with the Premier League club with immediate effect.

Wyness, who had been closely linked with the controversial proposals to move the club to a new stadium in Kirby, is reported to have tendered his resignation on Sunday evening.

A short statement on the club's official website read: "Everton Football Club wish to announce that Keith Wyness has resigned his position as chief executive officer and director of the club."

Meanwhile, Toffees boss David Moyes has revealed that he agreed to sell striker Andrew Johnson to Fulham because the striker said he wanted to leave.

He commented: "Why did I sell AJ? It was AJ's choice. He decided that he wanted to move on."

Moyes went on to state that he would utilise the cash raised from the sale of Johnson to try and bring in some top-class recruits in the coming weeks.

"There is money to spend," Moyes concluded. "I'm not going to accept second best and I want to get the best players in.

"I'm expecting to play over 60 games next year. I'm expecting to get to cup finals, I'm expecting to have a long run in the UEFA Cup and I'm expecting to do well in the league. So, I'm going to need lots of cover and lots of players."
