Everton fans have discovered why Marouane Fellaini has looked so down in the mouth recently - he's been too long in the tooth. But ref, my teeth hurt: Marouane Fellaini appeals against his booking at home to Stoke The 21-year-old Belgium midfielder has finally undergone surgery to remove the troublesome wisdom teeth that were giving him infections and affecting his fitness and form. Fellaini had delayed an operation because of the injury crisis at Goodison Park but one too many throat infections proved the last straw. He chose the international break so he would not miss any Premier League games and revealed: 'It has been painful. I got an infection in my throat which made it worse, but you get on with it for the team. 'It has been a problem, but I needed to play, and while it affected me I just had to wait and get on with things. It has been a tough start to the season, and we all have to work hard for the team.' Everton boss David Moyes pointed to Fellaini's teeth as the reason for his quiet start to the season and told fans to expect their big-haired hero to be as good as new soon. Fellaini himself is looking to shed his wild man image and is trying to calm down on the pitch. He added in The Mirror: 'I'm still exactly the same player, but maybe I've become a bit wiser and maybe the refs know me a bit more now too, which will help my game in the long run. 'What I have learned is that I used to pick up a lot of yellow cards when I was running back trying to stop teams on the counter attack. I would foul players trying to get back into the game, but I have cut that out.'
