Windass keen on Round for Boro

Tony Mowbray remains the 4/6 favourite to replace Gordon Strachan at Middlesbrough but Dean Windass has pushed the claims of Steve Round.[LNB] Former Boro striker Windass, who himself is quoted at 100/1 with SkyBet to get the job, thinks Everton number two Round (12/1) could be a dark horse for the post on Teesside.[LNB]Round, 39, was part of Middlesbrough's coaching staff from 2001 to 2006 and is regarded as one of the Premier League's finest coaches. But as Windass points out Round is just one of several credible candidates along with Mowbray and Phil Brown (10/1) for the top job at The Riverside.[LNB]Windass told Sky Sports News Radio: "Phil (Brown) did a fantastic job when I was at Hull and he did brilliantly for me personally. And if anybody has seen Phil work, his coaching and attention to detail is second to none and without a shadow of a doubt Middlesbrough would be a fantastic club to go to.[LNB]"Tony Mowbray would also be a great appointment - he did well at West Brom and Celtic, but there is one name being bandied around who I worked with when I was there (Middlesbrough), it's the assistant manager to David Moyes at Everton, Steve Round.[LNB]"He was assistant under Steve McClaren when I was at Middlesbrough and he is a very good coach, but does he want to step up and become a manager...I don't know?[LNB]Sky Bet senior football trader Mike Triffitt said: "Round has all the credentials. He spent five years on the backroom staff at the Riverside and is a highly respected coach but the fact is he's not particularly well known from those outside the game.[LNB]"You can back him at 12/1 for the Boro job but with so many other candidates including Tony Mowbray (now 4/6) and Gary Megson (2/1) attracting most of the money it's certainly going to be a long shot."[LNB]Click here to listen to Sky Sports News Radio[LNB]
